NGO April Feature: SCOT

Who is SCOT and how can we help?

SCOT (Society for Community Outreach & Training) is a registered Non-Government Organisation (NGO) established in May 2011 with the mission to be a catalyst for sustainable poverty alleviation in Brunei Darussalam. SCOT acts as a bridge by coming up with sustaining methods and strategies to help socioeconomically challenged communities, and then providing them with assistance in the form of resources, basic skills and support to help them move out of the cycle of poverty.

We welcome financial donations to our cause. The donations will be used to fund the current and future projects of SCOT. In addition, we also receive donations in the form of tools and materials for our projects. You can e-mail [email protected] or contact +673 8279805 to find out more on how to get involved!

What projects does SCOT Brunei currently have ongoing?

For the holy month of Ramadhan, there will be two projects: Ramadhan Charity Drive and Social Kitchen. This year’s Ramadhan Charity Drive aims to ease the burden of 100 socioeconomically challenged families from all four districts in Brunei Darussalam by donating basic household necessities. Social Kitchen, on the other hand, will also be held in Ramadhan, where we will be preparing iftar meals to be donated to socioeconomically challenged families as well as foreign workers.

One of the aims of this project is to empower socioeconomically challenged mothers by providing employment for them as they will be cooking the Social Kitchen meals along with a team of volunteers. Donations are currently open for the public, higher education institutions and corporations.

What are SCOT Brunei’s 2021 goals?

Our goals for 2021 are:

Internally, to train more of our members and expose them to new things so as to expand their knowledge and empower them to be a leader.

Externally, for SCOT Brunei to reach more challenged communities to help empower them and lead a more sustainable lifestyle to breakaway from their poverty cycle.

To encourage and produce more businesses from the families with proper training till they’re able to support their families.
