Kilang ReRoot was founded in October 2020 and was established in November 2020 led by a team of local eco-enthusiasts.

This project aims to tackle food waste using the three pillars of sustainability: reducing food waste (environment) by involving multiple sectors of the Bruneian community (society) and creating opportunities for local businesses through food upcycling projects (economy). Kilang ReRoot focuses on efficient management in every stage of the food cycle, emphasising on waste recovery to prevent food waste from being dumped in landfills.

Kilang ReRoot targets six (6) of Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 2: Zero hunger, Goal 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth, Goal 12: Responsible Consumption & Production, Goal 13: Climate Action, Goal 14: Life Below Water, Goal 15: Life On Land, and Brunei Vision Goal 3: Dynamic & Sustainable Economy. The project plan begins from the grassroot level by raising awareness, introducing new ways to adapt to a zero-waste lifestyle, continuous engagement with the public, and eventually building a community that strives towards sustainable and zero-waste living.

Vision

To build a dynamic and innovative community in minimising food waste, upcycling food produce into new products, and adopting sustainable practices in our daily lives thus striving towards a zero waste and healthy green lifestyle.

Mission

To promote eco-friendly local products for a sustainable living in Brunei Darussalam by becoming environmentally conscious of food production, packaging, consumption and waste recovery.

YSEALI Seeds Grant 2021 Obectives

With the support of YSEALI Seeds Grant, we are able to kickstart our project using the funds and support provided. Not only this, it has also guided us in terms of planning and executing our project, in addition to helping us expand our network locally and internationally with other YSEALI Seeds recipients that have helped us finetune our ideas.

Objective 1: Zero Waste Lifestyle

Educating locals to adopt a zero waste lifestyle to avoid sending huge amounts of waste to landfills, especially food waste through 5Rs: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose.

Objective 2: Increase Income of Small Businesses

Supporting local businesses by using their existing products and services to increase profitability of their businesses.

Objective 3: Creating Opportunities

Generating job opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship to local youths.
